An award-winning redevelopment of Watchet Marina with a focus on regeneration of the local area and creation of a multi-purpose public realm to engage the community.

Situated in Watchet, a small harbour town, this ambitious project is part of a larger scheme of regeneration led by a community-focused group, The Onion Collective.

Their aim was to redevelop the site to help support the local economy and create new opportunities for tourism, work and leisure through the creation of a series of enriched activities that local people can utilise and engage with.

The building features a series of dynamic and flexible external spaces that create a backdrop and a focal point for year round activities including live music and theatre performances, communal gathering and social space, places to make and places to rest, a café and an art gallery.

The external spaces have been thoughtfully designed so they are available for night-time usage and remain flexible for the various daytime activities that may take place in the space.

The development has been designed in a manner to reflect the nature of the wider landscape area while delivering high quality, sustainable design and which maximises the fantastic natural resources including views across the Bristol Channel. The landscape is a key component to the success of the scheme and has been designed so that visitors may continue their walk seamlessly from the Esplanade, to explore and interact with the activity that is taking place at the gallery or café terraces.
