Northumberland National Park Visitor Centre

LT Studio was shortlisted with FCBS for the redevelopment of the Once Brewed Youth Hostel and Visitor Centre located at Northumberland National Park. The site is located at the foot of the Northumberland National Park which extends north towards the Scottish Boarders.

Our approach was driven by the need to transform how people understand, access and enjoy the natural and cultural landscapes of the Northumberland National Park, the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site and beyond.

The proposed scheme design is sympathetic to the existing landscape character. Understated, the proposals visually and physically link the site with the surrounding setting. Views towards the building from key vantage points including ‘The Sill’ are improved by maintaining the majority of existing trees and by physically linking the landscape spaces within the site with the fields and meadows beyond the boundary. Intimate, enclosed spaces create a sense of place.
