Bedminster Green is an area of huge potential in the already vibrant area of south Bristol.
It is clear that there is an opportunity to improve the current offering at St. Catherine’s
Place, to raise the profi le of this area and to enhance the arrival sequence, to provide
a high quality area of public realm for locals and new visitors, to reconnect adjoining
districts to invigorate this part of the City.
At the heart of the scheme, the aspiration is to improve the central square and primary
connections through the site, to provide a sense of place that will encourage visitors
to linger increasing footfall, rather than passing through. The landscape proposals
fully refurbish the external spaces providing a high quality retail environment with a
contemporary character that is distinctive to this part of Bristol.
The edges of the site along Dalby Avenue are visually and physically reconnected
through a singular design typology where public spaces are broken out of a ‘Green Edge’
landscape that is wrapped around the building form.
The wider context of future development proposals in the Bedminster Green area have
been carefully considered throughout the design process to ensure the underlying design
responses to this site are not developed in isolation but treat this development zone as a
new singular community.
